Riverfront Park is one of our favorite Columbia River launches. Located within a reasonable walk of the Historic Downtown area of The Dalles, Or Riverfront Park features a playground and nice large open park area for the whole family with plenty of parking even during the busiest Summer day.

What really sets Riverfront Park apart from most of the other Columbia River launches is the rare opportunity to go both downwind AND upwind in the same trip, rather than arranging rides and transportation for the typical Columbia River Downwinder trip. There are plenty of rock outcroppings and islands along the Southern edge of the River all the way as far as you can go towards the Dalles Dam to offer protection from the current & wind. Even in these conditions, an upwind trip isn’t for the faint of heart in anything over 8-10mph sustained winds. Amazing scenery, lots of islands to hop out on and catch a quick break from paddling or snap some gorgeous pictures of the Gorge.
